Never step on Mr T’s shoes

For aaaaaaages, I’ve been hankered after a pair of Superga’s pristine white canvas tennis shoes. They’re completely lush with a chunky white sole. Plus, they’re wide (unlike Converse).

So why don’t I have a pair? Because, in a moment of madness, I once made the mistake of standing on the toes of Mr T’s brand new white Vans. With hindsight, I can see it was a fairly idiotic move, especially as he was inordinately proud of them. But at school, no one wore box fresh shoes. It was a rite of passage to mucky up the toes. Apparently it wasn’t at his. And he did warn me he’d be mad.

Still. I was a bit surprised he got mad. He sulked for the whole day. And steadfastly promised to ‘ruin’, a.k.a. stand on any white shoes I ever bought.

Hence the lack of Supergas.

But now, Adidas Stan Smiths are making a comeback. Woohoo! At first, I toyed with the idea of the Superstars, but the flatform didn’t do it for me. So then, back to the Stans. What’s not to love about plain white trainers? And most importantly, they’re leather. So if Mr T takes his revenge, I can wipe them clean. Mwahahahahaha.

However, the classic Stans have a green tab at the heel, while you can also get navy; and I’m more of a navy kind of girl. Mr T thinks they look chavvy, but I bet he’s just jealous because I’ve found a loophole in his cunning plan.

So, the question is, do I go for green (and be classic), or navy (and be rebellious…lols)?

And if you need proof that these are the coolest shoes this season, sneak a peek below.

I’ve been shopping…

I’m not going to lie, I’m more of a winter breed, and there are few things I like more than rediscovering and replenishing my winter clothes. I’ve spent the last few weeks feasting my hungry little eyes on new stock drip-drip-dripping in, and now it’s all arrived in a flood.

Last week, Mr T and I hit the shops in Leeds, and did some damage. Here are the current new beauties of my wardrobe, although I still have a list as long as my arm… Sigh.

As you can see, my colour palette tends to the grey, black and white. Mr T says none of those count as colours, but he’s wrong. I’ll let him off though, as he bought me my lovely Adidas Gazelles, which I’ve been gazing (no pun intended…) at for a while. He actually bought them to say congrats for swimming the Channel; all together now – awwwww, bless.

Mango Camel Wool Gilet

Mango Camel Wool Gilet

This gilet is bleeding gorgeous. I had to beg the sales assistant in Mango to rummage in the store room for it as they hadn’t put it on the shelves yet. I’m convinced this is going to be really useful, as I can even layer a jacket underneath it when it gets colder.

I don’t usually ‘do’ heels, but these are lust worthy, in my humble opinion. The straps mean that I can actually walk in them, they also hide my less-than-stunning feet, and the block heel means they don’t hurt. It’s a miracle! And I love the shiny toe plate too.

Topshop Double Layer Sheer Solid Top

Topshop Double Layer Sheer Solid Top

It’s sheer, but not so sheer you need to wear a vest top underneath, it’s charcoal grey, and it’s soft. What is not to love about this? Plus, the long hemline means I can wear my new leather-look leggings underneath and not feel like I’m flashing too much!

Topshop Asymmetric V-Neck Sweater

Topshop Asymmetric V-Neck Sweater

Yes, I know this is basically the same as the jumper above, but it’s not really. It’s a different grey. A lighter grey. It’s versatile. And I love it.

River Island High Waisted Coated Leggings

River Island High Waisted Coated Leggings

The aforementioned leather-look leggings. These are a first for me; I’ve always admired the ladies who can carry off leather leggings or trousers and look sexy without looking too OTT, but I’ve never had the guts myself. Why? Because leather and pleather have a tendency to cling where you don’t want them to. I also can’t get Ross from Friends out of my head, and I loathe pleather when it looks seriously plastic-y. I tried on several pairs in River Island. One pair zipped up, but I honestly couldn’t tell which was the front and which was the back; either way I tried they looked awful, and when I finally pulled them off, my legs were pretty sweaty. Gross. These ones, however, pull on (quite easily as it turns out); the high waist means there’s no dreaded muffin top, and I figure as long as I wear tops that cover my bum, I think I can just about get away with them. I’ll keep you updated…

My lovely Gazelles. Thanks Mr T x

Topshop Leigh Jeans

You can NEVER have too many pairs of skinny black jeans. NEVER!!! And the Leigh jeans are soft and thin, with enough stretch to give you a fitted look but not so much that they’re bagging at the knees a few hours later.

Finally, some new black boots. I love an ankle boot. Like, really, honest to God, would marry them if I could, LOVE an ankle boot. They are so useful. And a pair with a walkable wearable chunky cuban-esque heel? Well, you’ve just about made my day. Mr T doubts the usefulness of black suede, but I like a slightly battered look to my shoes. So there. These will not be the last pair of ankle boots I thrust before your eyes. Just a gentle warning.

Getting shredded…

Yesterday was my first day of the 30 Day Shred. Now, if you tell most people that you’re doing a home exercise DVD then you might forgive them for assuming that you’re not really doing that much. A bicep curl here, a squat press there, a swig of water here, a sit down and have a breather there. But if you know who Jillian Michaels is, then you might reassess that assumption.

Jillian Michaels is scary. She’s a trainer on The Biggest Loser, which, if you don’t know, is an insane American show where morbidly obese contestants compete to lose the most weight each week. Jillian is known for her catchphrase, ‘Unless you puke, faint or die, keep going.’

I like to think I look like this when I work out...

I like to think I look like this when I work out…

Oh yeah.

Anyway, so she released this home DVD in 2008 and it’s still on the bestseller lists. The idea is to do intense exercise for 20 minutes each day which replaces an hour or so of cardio. There are three levels, and you go up a level every 10 days. Each level consists of cardio, strength and ab exercises. The dvd case claims you could lose up to 20lbs in the 30 days. I guess that’s only the case if you don’t eat a tub of ice cream in one sitting like I do on a regular basis…

This is what I actually look like..

This is what I actually look like..

While losing weight is always a nice bonus, I’m actually doing this as another personal challenge to get me off my arse. So back to yesterday, and Day One. I guess the swimming meant my fitness levels are a bit higher, which is fortunate else I might have puked, fainted or died. As it was I simply ended up dripping in sweat and prostrate on the floor for half an hour afterwards. No exaggeration. But it sort of felt good. And then, as the day went on, and I could feel my muscles beginning to ache in recognition of some exercise, it felt better.

This morning, I persuaded Mr T to do it with me. So there we were, both in our gym kit, beach towels on the floor as temporary gym mats, windows open for a breeze, as we squatted and lunged to Jillian’s dulcet tones. I was thrilled to see he was just as red and sweaty as I was. Huzzah!

I won’t bore you with daily (or even weekly) updates. But if I manage to make it to Level Two, you’ll definitely be hearing something – probably a demand for cake!…

Have a lovely weekend all! x
