Weekly Fashion Inspiration

I go on Pinterest a lot. A lot a lot a lot. And I find it really inspiring for fashion and outfits. I also visit a lot of blogs. In fact, I have almost a hundred fashion blogs that I visit every week, and I usually find inspiring outfits on those too. So in the spirit of sharing and being a good fashion-lover, I’m going to post my favourites here so you can be inspired (or not) too. Here’s this week’s:

Not another Xmas gift guide

Well, I guess that’s exactly what this is, but hopefully it’ll also be quite helpful! Buying presents for multiple people can be really tough, and more than a little bewildering, so while I might not be able to help you with the men in your life, I might be able to shed some light for the women.

The Red Lipstick

First of all, does the woman (wife/girlfriend/daughter/sister/mother) in your life wear red lipstick? Yes? Then, you’re sorted. Buy her Chanel’s Rouge Coco in Gabrielle, £25. Chanel is a great gift, the packaging is insanely glamorous, the colour is flattering on everyone, and the formula is silky but also strongly pigmented.

The Cashmere Beanie

Does your lady wear hats? Not a fedora, but beanies? Then go for COS’ cashmere beanie; a steal at £29. Everyone loves cashmere and it’s ridiculously soft. The colour ranges are lovely, and it’s at least half the price of most other cashmere beanies.

The Expert Tool Kit (no; not that kind!)

Does she enjoy make-up? I mean actively enjoy, as opposed to just wearing it. Then hop on to Space NK’s website, and get a pair of Shu Uemura’s eyelash curlers for £20. These are the best in the business, and will give a lovely curl to lashes.

The Luxury Make-Up

Another option is to dive into Charlotte Tilbury’s new make-up range. This selection is utterly glamorous and totally lust-worthy. Her Filmstars On The Go (£42) palettes look divine, and are pretty easy to choose from. If you’re scared about picking the wrong colours, jump over to her eye crayons where you can buy individual ones according to eye colour (£19) or buy a selection pack for £75.

The Silver Bangle

Does she wear jewellery? And is that jewellery delicate? Then look no further than Links of London’s karabiner bangle. Yes, it’s a bit more pricey for £140, but it is stunning.

The Designer Candle

Is she house proud? Does she lust over elegant interiors? Then go for a decadent scented candle from Jo Malone (£40). Far from being a naff present, scented candles are great, and Jo Malone is pretty high up there. Diptyque candles are super duper pricey, but these look amazing and save you some pennies. Every fragrance they do is delicious, but ask one of the lovely saleswomen to guide you between fruity and floral if you need.

The Coffee Table Book

Does photography rock her boat? Or perhaps Kate Moss? Or fashion? Easy peasy – Kate: The Kate Moss Book (£32.50).

The Beauty Must Have

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream (£26). Until you’ve tried it, you don’t know why you’d need it, once you have, you don’t know how you lived without it. Trust me.

The Glam Watch

Large faced watches are all the rage at the moment, and Olivia Burton does some of the best for a really good price. My personal favourite is the large white face with black leather strap (£75).

Hope some of this helps! And if it does nothing else, it means I might be getting a cracking stocking from my nearest and dearest this year. Hint hint.

Best of the fashion bloggers

I’m a fashion blogger groupie. Almost every single day, I click (and pin) my way through a list of tens of bloggers; I’m always on the lookout for new ones to add to my lists and every month a few come and go, but the ones I’m sharing here have stayed the course. If you’re remotely interested in fashion, these guys are pretty inspiring; and if you don’t have the time to check out every single one, you could always follow me on Pinterest where I share my favourite images.

My Absolute Faves:

Fashion Me Now – home to Lucy Williams. This Londoner has my favourite fashion style that I love to try to imitate. She writes about fashion, travel, beauty, living and more. More than just pictures, her writing style is great too.

They All Hate Us – less of a personal outfit blog, and more daily fashion inspiration posted by Aussie team – Tash Sefton and Elle Ferguson.

Sincerely, Jules – where it all began for me. Julie Sarinana’s personal style blog is a gateway drug; I’m warning you now.

Garance Dore – I adore Garance – a Corsican Street Style photographer and illustrator. Her blog is seriously inspiring with great images and writing.

My Big Time Likes:

Jeanne Damas – the French cool girl, who updates her personal blog sporadically with intimate snaps from her life. Charming.

Le Blog de Betty – another Frenchie, but this one with her finger firmly on the fashion and blogging industry. You’ll find collaborative shoots here, as well as outfit inspo. I have major fringe envy. Those in the know might recognise Betty from appearances on the Sincerely Jules blog.

The Blonde Salad – the blog of the ridiculously photogenic Italian – Chiara Ferragni. Blogging about fashion, travel and her inspirations, she also has her own shoe line.

Atlantic-Pacific – Blair Eadie posts her quirky outfits with lots of colour.

Ring My Bell – Actress Ashley Madekwe shares outfit inspo and her enviable legs.

Stockholm Street Style – one of the original Street Style blogs.

The Sartorialist – Another long time Street Style guru, Scott Schuman is a heavyweight in the fashion commentary world.

We Wore What – another personal fashion diary; this time of New Yorker Danielle Bernstein.

Death by Elocution – drawn in by the name, this Tumblr account has become a favourite.

En Brogue – After spotting Hannah Rochelle’s book of the same name, I soon began to check out her blog dedicated to flat shoes regularly.

Maja Wyh – If you like the Olsens’ look, you’ll like Maja.

Tuula – Jessica Stein’s diary of travel and fashion. Great legs.

Spin Dizzy Fall – Fashion blog of Sydney-sider Emma Lucey. Another one with great legs. Sigh.

Harper and Harley – still a new discovery for me, but I like Sarah Donaldson and her blog a lot; not model or fashion skinny, she still styles greta outfits.

We The People – blogger and photographer Jessie Bush

Look De Pernille – former model, Danish Pernille is a bloggers’ favourite, and is a successful stylist.

Camille Over The Rainbow – half English, half French, former lawyer, Camille Charriere is a freelance stylist.

Hoard of Trends – the style and fashion of Berliner Magdalena I.

My ‘Worth A Look’:

Always Judging – American Courtney Trop might look like she never cracks a smile, but her style is worth logging on for.

Brooklyn Blonde – personal style blog of Helena

The Coveteur – allowing us a glimpse into some of the most coveted wardrobes in the world.

Song of Style – Aimee Song shares her outfits and inspiration (and she also has incredible legs – sigh).

The Wall – Elin Kling – Fashion journal founded by Swedish Street Style star Elin Kling.

Little Black Boots – I don’t check this every day, or even every week as Jill Wallace’s hippy boho style isn’t 100% to my liking but it’s still worth visiting every now and then.

Le 21eme – adamantly NOT a Street Style Blog, nevertheless, the ‘photo-journalistic view into the daily world of fashion’ is pretty darn good.

The Not Vanilla – fashion, beauty and lifestyle blog from Sonia Evers.

The Styleograph – Street Style blog, great images.

Dallas Shaw – officially the blog of ‘fashion illustrator, brand collaborator, and tastemaker’ but less pretentious than that.

Natalie Dressed – fashion diary of Natalie.

Adenorah – French fashion blogger of the same name.

The Fashion Guitar – personal style of Danish Charlotte, who now lives in NYC.

My ‘Misc’:

Into The Gloss – beauty, rather than fashion, and an easy way to lose a few hours…

The return of the opaques

I went out for a few drinks with Danners this Saturday and I was so pleasantly surprised by the number of girls eschewing bare legs for some opaque black tights. I love a good pair of opaques, especially when you don’t have the best legs (dammit!) – you can almost rock a miniskirt or shorts as well as the girl with beautiful smooth legs up to her armpits.

They give every outfit an oomph of class so you can wear that new leather skirt to the office (just as long as you don’t pair it with those thigh high boots you’ve got…), and you can restyle your favourite summer dress for winter when you throw on a pair of opaques underneath and a chunky cardie on the top.

Don’t go for anything less than 60 denier; I’m more of a 100 denier girl myself. And, while, in a dream world, we’d all be walking round with our legs encased in ludicrously expensive tights from Wolford, if you’re as clumsy as I am, then a multi-pack from Primark will do the job; just avoid any shine like the plague!

Oh, and if it’s good enough for Olivia Palermo and La Moss, then it’s good enough for me.

These are some of my favourite opaque looks.

Pop a sock

I’ve been having terrible trouble with my feet recently. Almost every pair of shoes I own are rubbing or pinching or squeezing or generally just hurting in some way. It’s very frustrating, and there are only so many blister plasters one can layer on.

So, I decided to take a leaf out of Hannah Rochelle of En Brogue‘s book, and buy myself some jazzy socks. Yes, that’s right, I’m about to rock the visible socks and shoes trend…

I went on to Pinterest to do some serious research, and I’ve got to admit it, I was pretty inspired. Armed with these pictures, I’m going to venture into the world of socks. Whether I’m successful or not remains to be seen! In an effort to avoid looking sartorially inelegant, I’ve opted for two pairs of glittery socks – black and charcoal – and one pair of white frilly ones (all from Topshop). I’m really hoping that my sneaking suspicion that you have to have long lean legs to make this look work (I’m talking about you, Alexa Chung) is proved wrong.

Even though we’re enjoying a late resurgence in summer heat, I’m still resolutely looking towards my sartorial winter wardrobe, and that includes boots. Boots in many colours, and styles. I can’t get enough of them.
